Leeds Student Community First Responders

Student-led volunteers trained by Yorkshire Ambulance Service, providing lifesaving care in those crucial minutes before an ambulance arrives.

About Us

Community first responders delivering lifesaving care during training

Community First Responders (CFRs) are trained volunteers who attend 999 calls, providing lifesaving care in those crucial minutes before an ambulance arrives.

CFRs deliver early interventions such as CPR, defibrillation, and basic life support. We bridge the gap between emergency calls and professional ambulance services, often making the difference between life and death.

Our role is to stabilise patients and provide immediate care whilst waiting for paramedics, working as part of the wider emergency response network across Yorkshire.

Mountain Rescue Residential- April 24th – 26th, 2026

We had an incredible three-day residential trip with Mountain Rescue! Members got stuck into real outdoor rescue scenarios in a stunning setting. Participants gained hands-on practical experience with immersive rescue simulations and plenty of teamwork — all led by experienced Mountain Rescue personnel. From casualty care on rugged terrain to search techniques and stretcher carries across difficult ground, everyone was tested and trained in ways that go well beyond the classroom.

It was a brilliant weekend of learning, adventure, and bonding with like-minded individuals. The group returned with incredible memories and valuable skills.

Freshers' Fair- September 2025

Our President Cam & Secretaries Rory & Laiba headed to the Freshers' Fair to showcase LSCFR to new students. With a full display of our medical equipment including CPR mannequins, oxygen cylinders, and response bags, they demonstrated what it means to be a Community First Responder. Students had the chance to learn about our work with Yorkshire Ambulance Service, ask questions about joining, and see firsthand the life-saving equipment we use on calls. The stall attracted significant interest from students across all disciplines, highlighting the diverse appeal of emergency response volunteering.

Give It A Go Session- October 1st, 2025

Our Give It A Go event was a fantastic success! We welcomed prospective members to experience what it's like to be a Community First Responder. The session included hands-on experience with our emergency equipment, comprehensive Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training, opportunities to ask questions to our experienced responders, a fun visual quiz to test observation skills, and concluded with a social at the pub where attendees could meet current members in a relaxed setting.
